THE HOUSE OF LIGHT

The House of Light - Multi-Faith Pavilion

The goal for this project was to create a multi-faith pavilion located on the Nanaimo campus of Vancouver Island University. The House of Light has the intent to evoke connection. Connection with others within the space, connection with yourself, and connection with a higher power. The windows are strategically carved out of the structure to draw in sunlight in the way that mimics the windows seen in old churches. The warm light being drawn in will evoke emotions of serenity, calmness, and peace for students and staff of VIU who need an escape from their busy schedules to a place where they can reconnect and find stability. The House of Light consist of two separate structures. One welcomes in the morning and afternoon light, and the other invites in the evening sun.
